Technical School Admissions Policy

The official admission policy is posted at the Technical College System of Georgia website.  Go to http://www.tcsg.edu.   They have changed their name and finding the information that applies to home schoolers is a bit difficult to find.  Please follow the following directions to find the policy which applies to home study graduates with non-accredited diplomas.  Print this information so that you can take it with you when you apply for admission, or to have as a reference when you are speaking to someone on the phone.

"What documents do I need to apply for admission as a Home Schooled Student?"

a. Documentation of certified home schooling or equivalent; appropriate placement test cut-off scores (e.g. ASSET-Compass); and appropriate SAT critical reasoning/verbal and math scores or ACT verbal and math scores as specified by the program standards.

b. Presidential waiver - Students being admitted under this section may seek a Presidential waiver from the usual requirement that they earn a high school diploma or GED prior to graduation from a Technical College program.

The official admission policy is posted at the Department of Technical and Adult Education web site. Go to http://www.dtae.org/dtaepolicy/menu.html . Paragraph (b-1) under (5) Student Affairs is the policy which applies to home study graduates with nonaccredited diplomas. Print this information so that you can take it with you when you apply for admission, or to have as a reference when you are speaking to someone on the phone.

If the admissions officer tells you that you must have an accredited transcript or a GED show the policy that you have printed from their web site and tell the person that you would like to be admitted using an alternative path. Then ask what kind of documentation of home study activities they would like. If the admissions department is still insisting on an accredited diploma or a GED, please call our office (770) 461-3657 and also call Barb Wilburn at (404) 982-3482 at the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education and report the incident.

The Association will serve and assist any home schooling family or support group in Georgia, however, GHEA is a Christian organization and the counsel and direction of the organization will be Christian.
