Arbor Day 2005 “Creativi-Tree” Children’s Art Contest

Metro-Atlanta Youth Invited to Submit Drawings, Paintings, and Photography about Trees

Trees Atlanta and its Arbor Day partners are pleased to announce the second annual “Creativi-Tree” contest in celebration of Arbor Day in metro-Atlanta.  Arbor Day is an annual holiday recognizing the importance of trees in our lives and communities. The “Creativi-Tree” contest is a feature Arbor Day event and is open to metro-Atlanta youth between the ages of 7 and 18.

We invite metro-area youth to submit entries with a tree theme.  Perhaps a neighborhood tree or forest is your inspiration, or maybe a tree that you used to climb when you were younger.  Creativity is encouraged!  Awards and prizes will be given in age groups 7 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to18 for outstanding tree artwork including (but not limited to) drawings, paintings, and photography related to trees.

Entries will be voted on by Arbor Day Partners from Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Zoo Atlanta, Imagine It!  Children’s Museum of Atlanta, Earth Share of Georgia, Georgia Forestry Commission, Grant Park Conservancy, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, Piedmont Park Conservancy, Chastain Park Conservancy, Freedom Park Conservancy, Grant Park Conservancy, Wren’s Nest, Georgia Arborist Society, the Georgia Urban Forest Council,  and Park Pride.  Winning entrants will be recognized at an Arbor Day Awards Ceremony on Saturday, February 19 at 12:30pm at Horizon Theater, located at 1083 Austin Avenue in Inman Park.  Winning artwork will also be on view through mid-March at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, across from Centennial Park.

All entries for the “Creativi-Tree” Contest must be received by Tuesday, February 8 (5:00 PM).  Send completed application along with artwork to:  96 Poplar Street, NW, Atlanta, GA  30303.  For more information about this and other Arbor Day events, visit Trees Atlanta’s website:  www.treesatlanta.org.  You can also contact the Trees Atlanta office at 404-522-4097.

Trees Atlanta is a non-profit citizens’ group, dedicated to protecting and improving our urban environment by planting and conserving trees.  We also educate the public about the importance of trees.  Since 1985, Trees Atlanta has planted and distributed over 60,000 trees.
