Colonial Christmas Season


During December, celebrate the Colonial Christmas Season in a special way at The American Village. Come visit with Father Christmas on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, 2004 (1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.) Join the Village costumed historical interpreters for special vignettes recalling how this holiday has been celebrated throughout American history including scenes from a Colonial Christmas Encampment, A Little Women's Christmas, the Oval Office in 1941, Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus, and Teddy Roosevelt and the origin of the teddy bear. Local high school choirs and bands add festive notes to the occasion.

On Saturday, end your day with the annual Lighting of the Village. On Sunday, finish up with Lessons and Carols in the Colonial Chapel.

Tickets: $5 per person. Food and drinks priced separately.

On Saturday, December 5 AT 5:30 p.m. make plans to attend a COLONIAL HOLIDAY "GROANING BOARD" and entertainment guaranteed to knock your Christmas stockings off. The popular Hallelujah Singers return to the American Village with a high-spirited holiday concert. This gospel group has previously been a favorite with Village 4th of July visitors.

The Hallelujah Singers have also delighted audiences worldwide having performed at the Kennedy Center, before the US Congress and most recently a command performance at the White House. They also were featured in the movie Forrest Gump.

December 6 - 17 (tours start at 10:00, noon, and 2:00 p.m. - please book in advance.) . Enjoy festive "old world" decorations designed by some of the area's best floral and interior designers, along with refreshments, historical characters, Christmas Carols in the Colonial Chapel, and more.
