Home School Day Announcement      19 November 2004

 

All home school parents and their families are invited to Fort Discoveryís third annual Open House. Enjoy a free afternoon of activities while learning more about whatís available for you as a home school parent. Discover how to use the Center as an effective learning resource, while considering the many programming options available to your children.  

 

Fort Discoveryís Home School Open House is on Friday November 19th from 1 until 5 PM. Home school parents and their children will be admitted free that afternoon.  Special activities include the following:

 

            -Guided Tours

               

            -Theatre Programs.

 

            -Power Station Science Demonstrations.

 

            -A Star Lab Portable Planetarium Presentation.

           

-Select Discovery Lab Programs.     

 

            -Opportunities to meet with education vendors

 

            -Information on Camp-ins, Birthday Parties, Rentals, and Other Services.

 

            -Drawings for Prizes (must be present to win!)

 

The vendors include the following:

 

The Art Factory, The Augusta Ballet, The Augusta Symphony, The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, The Morris Museum of Art, Richmond County 4 H.

 

Information will also be provided on The Army E Cyber Mission for Kids, The JASON Program for 2005, and the Augusta Historical Museum.

Directions to Fort Discovery:

 

Fort Discovery is located on the Riverwalk in downtown Augusta at the end of 7th Street. Our entrance is on the Riverwalk.

From South Carolina traveling on Interstate 20:

Take River Watch Parkway Exit 200 just past the Georgia Welcome Center.  At the exit traffic light, turn left onto River Watch Parkway and proceed downtown.  At the end of River Watch Parkway, continue straight onto Jones St. past 2 traffic lights at 15th St. and 13th St. respectively.  Jones Street will dead-end at 10th St. Turn left onto 10th St.; go 1 block, and then right onto Reynolds St.  Fort Discovery will be 3 blocks on the left.

From Atlanta traveling on Interstate 20:

Take River Watch Parkway Exit 200 just past Washington Road.  At the exit traffic light turn left onto River Watch Parkway and proceed downtown.  At the end of River Watch Parkway, continue straight onto Jones St. past 2 traffic lights at 15th St. and 13th St. respectively.  Jones Street will dead-end at 10th Street. Turn left onto 10th St., go 1 block, then right onto Reynolds St.  Fort Discovery will be 3 blocks on the left

From South Carolina traveling on US Route 1:

Take 5th St. Bridge Exit.  At Reynolds St. traffic light turn right.   Turn right at 7th St. into Fort Discovery.

From Georgia traveling on US Route 1:

Take Gordon Highway (US1/78/278) to Walton Way.  Turn left onto Walton Way; turn right onto 7th St..  Follow 7th St. to Fort Discovery.

Parking:

 

Fort Discovery has several convenient public parking areas to choose from. Fees for the City of Augusta owned Parking Deck under Fort Discovery are $.75 per hour or $3.50 all day. There is also FREE public parking at Sixth and Reynolds Street.
