HCHE Band Camp

Registration is currently in progress for the HCHE Band Camp to be held July

24 - 30 (Monday through Friday) at Chestnut Mountain Church in South Hall

County. Participants do NOT have to be members of the Hall County Home

Educators or have any previous experience. Students will fare better if

they are at least nine years old. However, a student younger than nine who

already has musical experience is welcome.

Band Camp will serve as an introduction to band or as a refresher for those

who are already involved in band. The beginners class will be held from

9:00 am until 12:00 pm. The intermediate or advanced players class will be

held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Activities, depending on the session, will

include full band rehearsals, music theory, fun listening sessions, chamber

music, semi-private instruction, and pep band music. Additional classes

available during band camp are General Music for younger students who aren't

ready for band class but are interested in a music class and Music Theory

for students currently involved in music who would like additional

instruction in theory.

There will be an informational meeting, including an introduction to the

various band instruments, for parents and students on Monday, June 12, at

11:00 am. A "fitting day" has been scheduled for Saturday, June 17, from

1:00 to 3:00 pm at Music & Arts Center in Lawrenceville. (If this date is

not feasible, you may make an appointment with Music & Arts for another

time.) This is our opportunity for your child to try out instruments he/she

may be interested in playing and select one for band which can either be

purchased or rented. Other materials required for band camp aside from the

instrument include the Essential Elements 2000 book appropriate to the

instrument and level of the student (be sure to get the DVD edition), and a

folding music stand.

The cost for Band Camp is $50. To register, send your non-refundable

deposit of $20 with the name of your student and your contact information to

Melissa Tingle, 5148 Timberline Trail, Flowery Branch, GA 30542. The

deadline for registering is by July 10. The balance ($30) will be due on

the first day of band camp, July 24. If you have any questions, please

contact the band's director, Tammy Evans Yonce, at 706-654-5865.
